Is EAD/AP adequate leagal document to stay in US(L1 expires)

Hi,
Could some one guide me?. I have applied for AOS for self and family members. I am on L1 and family members on L2. With AOS, we have applied for AP and EAD for all of us. I intend to change over to EAD (for all of us), once received.

Question: After 180 days, if I am laid off and I do not get a job, what is the legal status for self and the family members?

AOS is the status until INS makes an adjudication on your case. EAD is employment authorization, not a visa status. AP is a document that allows you to reenter US after a trip abroad. So your 485 receipt notices are important documents now!!

Thanks a ton for your reply. So I take it that Me and my family can legally stay in the USA till AOS is adjudicated irespective of whether I have a job or no job.

You do need to be employed! Your current company does not need to extend your L-1, but you have to be gainfully employed.

Let me put it this way (I do not want to suggest immigration fraud ). At the time of adjudication INS might want to check whether you are gainfully employed. If you cannot PROVE that you are employed at that time (like in an interview or as a response to RFE) then your 485 might be denied and you will have to leave US.
