My H1B expires in a week. I have my EAD card which I have not used yet. I want to renew my H1B. While the H1B is being processed for renewal what is my status? Am I automatically using my EAD while the H1B renewal is pending? Thanks

If you apply for an H1 extension in a timely manner, you are allowed to continue working on pending H1 extension for upto 240 days after your current I-94 expires. Your status will still be H1 during this time.
