info about applying to interim card

hi!
If I understood correctly, if in 90 days my new EAD doesn't arrive, I can apply for an interim EAD card, right?
How do I do that? Does anybody knows how long it would take? Obviously I called USCIS, but all I get is recorded messages that doesn't address to this issue.

No interim EAD card

USCIS stopped interim EAD card issuing in near immigration offices.We tuck Infopass and they told we are not giving any interim EAD card now a days.

that's too bad... So if no reply comes within the 90-day frame, there's nothing to do except sit and wait? I'm afraid my ex/future boss won't be much happy to hear about it....
