  • EAD card undeliverable

Hi! I'm waiting for my EAD card to be re-sent - it was returned by USPS as undeliverable. Anyone else waiting for a card re-send and care to share your experience? The wait is killing me!!

    My timeline -
Aug 21 2018: I-765 application accepted for L2 a18 by the Vermont service center
    Nov 8: case approved
    Nov 14: card was mailed
    Nov 18: SSN received
Nov 29: still no EAD card, first SR for re-send
Dec 7: response to first SR, cannot re-send as not back with USCIS yet
Dec 26: returned card received and processed by USCIS
Jan 4 2019: second SR to re-send card (system didn't allow a new SR earlier)
Jan 18: re-send request processed, expected timeline 60-90 days
Apr 1: waiting, 73 days so far
I'm an L2 non-immigrant. My most recent I-539 and I-765 were submitted mid-Oct 2020, Texas SC and approved early August 2021.
Make sure to sign up for USPS Informed Delivery. USPS sent back my first EAD and it took 5 months to get it re-mailed in 2018-19.

We had something similar happen because we put a forward on our mailbox. Bad idea. Anyway, it took 5 months to get the card!!!! Totally absurd but that's how long it took. And we never got a new card after we applied for a renewal. They said the processing time for that was 5-7 months!!! We have now been waiting nearly 8 months. My advice to you is to apply for a renewal the minute you get the card. Good luck!

I was looking through this forum and there are 2 other things you can do:
contact the ombudsman and contact your local congressman to help you. Do a little search here to find out more info.
      Good luck

        Goodness that sounds terrible, Margaret!

I contacted my congressman last week, no response yet.
Will contact the Ombudsman next week, once the 60-90 day period runs out.

          Update / info regarding Congressman:

best call your Congressman's main office, find out which of the district's local offices deals with immigration issues and go there in person. They'll probably already know the issue and will simply ask you to sign a USCIS-specific release form.

I was told I should get an update by Wednesday, fingers crossed!

Update: finally received my card today!

            Timeline:
Jan 18, 2019: re-send request processed, expected timeline 60-90 days
Apr 12: asked Congressman's office for help, filled out privacy release
Apr 29 morning: Congressman's office received response from USCIS that they are "in the process of locating my card"
lunchtime: Case status changed to "Card has been mailed".
Apr 30 morning: In USPS Informed delivery, the tracking number popped up with status "pre-shipment info received"
around 10pm: status updated that my card was picked up by USPS at 2:12pm and expected delivery on May 2 by 8pm
May 1 12:05pm: card delivered, with signature

If I was back at the time when I learned that my card was sent back as undeliverable, I'd file I-765 for a replacement card right away. It turns out that the receipt for a replacement card is valid work authorization for up to 90 days.
My card was returned to USCIS on Dec 26 = it took a total of 126 days to get it back (165 days from initial attempt to deliver on Nov 17). And without Congressman's help, I can only wonder how long it would have been.

Thanks for sharing. How do you request SR? Is there a link?

You can raise a service request here: https://egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.do
For me (Vermont service center), it took them between 1 and 2 weeks to respond.
