So it has been more than 7 business days since my wife received her EAC, and we have not received the SSN. We had clicked the box on the I765 form to get the SSN directly once EAC is processed.
So as per current guidance provided by DHS, after waiting for 7 days we went to the SSA office today. Here however, we were told that SSA has been informed by the DHS/USCIS that they should wait for a period of 3 weeks after EAC is processed before they take in application for the SSN. When asked to show such policy, they could not but said its internal. They checked the system and said that they have not received any application from DHS/USCIS yet.
My wife has a job waiting for her, and like a couple of previous job opportunities which she lost due to USCIS delay, we do not want her to lose this. What should we do to get the SSN quickly? Should she just go to another SSA office and try applying without mentioning about the EAC (here she told the officer the 7 business days clause)? Does anyone here know about the 3 week rule? Any suggestions.
Much appreciated. Thanks.
