  • 3 weeks after EAD - still no SSN

    Hello,
So tomorrow is gonna be exactly 1 month since my EAD Card was in production, and about 3 weeks after i got it in hand - and i still didn’t get my SSN. I applied for it on form and from what i read it suppose to come 7-14 days after i receive my EAD.
I wanted to go to my Social Security Office but they are close due to Covid-19, i tried to call but they don’t give that informations through phone, so my question is they don’t work in their offices at all due to pandemic? Or i just should be patient and wait for my SSN to come anyway?
We wanted to do our taxes with my wife together since at day December 31st 2019 we were married and living together but without SSN i can’t really do it, only thing that saved us is that they postponed last day for taxes for 3 months.

I think you can apply by mail. You must send original documents, so maybe you just want to wait a little longer.

Yeah i guess i’m gonna wait another week or two and see, thanks tho - at least that is some option, but they will send me back my documents right? I’m talking about EAD/Passport and Birth Certificate

Yes, they must send the originals back. Please check with your local office. From what I read they are closed to the public but still working. Maybe they will open a "curb-side" drop off for drop off and pick up documents if the closure continues for a month or more.

Thank you I’m trying to reach them through phone once again maybe this time is different, if not then i might just apply through mail, because getting stressed about this whole situation, i would feel safer having my ssn already, although either way can’t really work right now because of this pandemic, eh.

            Good news!
I just called my local Social Security Office and some nice guy told me that they just issued my SSN yesterday and it will come in next 7-10 business days!
At least some good news in those sad days

So if someone is in similar situation just try to call your local SSO and ask politely about status of your case and they will tell you that

Update: Got my SSN today Finally! 03.30.2020

                Hi guys!

Wow your cases have been so fast! In which states are you? I´m in Florida and for me has taken so long! My husband is also an american citizen, we married in september 2019 and the last thing I knew about my case was "As of March 5, 2020, fingerprints relating to your Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, Receipt Number YYYY ZZZ, have been applied to your case. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address."

I see that you guys know a telephone number where to ask the doubts, can you give the number please??? I´m desperate!
Stay safe and all the best,
                VLR
