I'm on H1B status.
As part of my husband's employment based AOS process, the two of us recently received our EAD/AP documents. I'm going to "activate" my EAD soon by filling out another I-9 with my employer using the EAD.
Now that I have my EAD, I know that I can change jobs/employers. But I was wondering if this EAD status allows me to quit my job and remain unemployed for a few (2-3) months, and still maintain legal status? Or am I required to be employed in order to maintain legal status?
If I'm allowed to remain unemployed, and intend to travel outside the US and use my AP for re-entry, what additional documents should I carry along with my passport, AP and I-485 receipt? Will my husband's payslips and verification of employment suffice?
My husband, as the primary applicant, will of course continue working for his sponsoring employer.
Thanks!
