  • US Residence while working abroad

    Hello,

I´m a Mechanical Engineer working for an American Company in Africa as a International Commuter, my assignment requires me to go and work there for 35 days and I get 35 days off which I spend in my home country (Mexico). Is there any chance for me to ask for residence and spend my 35 days off living in USA?

I´ve a tourist USA Visa since 2000, and have been in the US every year at least once from that year.

I am currently married and working in the Oil&Gas Industry.

Not really sure if this is even possible, any thoughts?

    Regards,

    I am not clear.

Can't you use your United States tourist visa to visit the United States for the 35 days?

Sure I could. But I would like to do things right, I mean, Live there legally with my wife. So that she stays there while I'm abroad and everything.

I assume your wife is also a Mexican national?

You should ask your employer to sponsor your green card.

Yes she is Mexican as well.

What type of Visa can I apply for with the help of my employer?

I thought I could get it done by myself. So only option is talk to my employer.

          Thanks guys

In general, employment based green cards are available in connection with a full-time job in the United States. I am not certain there is an exception for United States employers who post their employee abroad. Your wife might qualify, depending on her ability to get a job, and subject to the backlog. Any chance, is she a nurse or physical therapist?

Unfortunately she is not. She has a bachelor's degree though. I will ask my employer. Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer
