EAD query-Mr.Waiting_toolong please!

Hi friends,

I am on H1B and my wife would join me soon on H4.

Is it possible for me to get an EAD for her?
Or she could get one only if I apply for green card.

I still do not understand EAD fully well, though I read the articles on this website. may be it is above my head.

H4 are not allowed to work.

You need a work aothorization to work and this is done wither through a work visa H1, L1 or through EAD. Only non-immigrants allowed to apply for EAD are L2, J2 and some E visa holder dependents.

An applicant who filed I-485 is entitled to obtain EAD. but once a person on H4 uses EAD their status changes to AOS pending and H4 becomes invalid.

So for your wife to be able to work she needs her own work visa or be eligible to file for I-485
