apply for eb3 140 while eb2 485 pending and not current under either category

I have a 485 pending on eb2, and I want to apply for an eb3 140 before my priority date is current under either category. Is there any risk for doing this? I heard the eb3 140 might sometimes be automatically relinked to 485 and get 485 canceled as it's not current, not sure if that could happen?
