Do you have the SSN? I have seen a few days age that Immigrants can now apply for both a Green Card and a Social Security Number at the same time.

        YES, you can work.
Let me clarify few things here.
        1. You need the EAD, which is nothing but work permit, only if you are working for USA company and also taking your pay check here.
        2. In your case, you have employment with Indian company and taking salary in Indian rupees.
        3. You have a legal status H4 in USA to stay, but that doesn't prevent you to work with Indian company while taking offshore salary.

I don't think this is true. If you are doing the work while present in the US, you need to be authorized to work in the US. It doesn't matter if the company is in the US or in India.

Besides the immigration violation issue, there's also the tax issue -- you would be subject to US tax on the work you do while present in the US.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
