  • No Birth certificate

    Hello,

My mom was born 1941 in Lahore, Pakistan(per-independence) She does not have a birth certificate. I am a US citizen and planning to apply for Green card for her. It is not possible to get a Birth certifcate from Lahore but I can get an affidavit from her two older sisters(one of which was physically present during her birth). Would I be able to apply for the Green card for her with this affidavit? Thank you for your help.

You actually can try the following:

Contact the hospital where your mother was born at, and ask them if they keep the record of your mother's birth. Then let them give you a piece of paper that clearly show the date and other details for your mother's birth. Bring this paper to the agency where you can translate and certify it. Then that is all you need. Remember that make additional copy of the certificate.

Yes, You can use "Affidavit of Date and Place of Birth" for your mother. You can also submit any other document such as school certificate, Passport, etc, showing date and Place of birth

Thank you for the information, but my mom is an Indian citizen living in India for the last 70 years and she was born at home. So, I would not be able to get a hospital record from Pakistan. So, in this case, would the affidavits from her two sisters alone work. There will be no birth certificate and Non-availability certificate.

In this case, I assum that your mother must has some offical document that can prove her date of birth, such as passport. Just bring that kind of government issued document to the notaril agency to ask them if they can issue your mother a certificate. Most of them will accept government issued document. Good luck!
