  • Uscis elis $165

We are leaving for USA in 3 days. I have been since one week trying to register on USCIS ELIS to pay the 165 dollar fee. However i dont get the confirmation email. I emailed them but i didnt get any reply from them. I tried 4 different email id and i dont get anything either in inbox or junk mail.
Is there anyother way to pay this fee? Like on the airport?

There is no other way to pay the Green Card fee, except through a bank account on the USCIS website. Lots of people have problems with that particular payment. The trick is to go on the website as "applicant," after which you can be connected to the particular case.

It's nothing like the NVC fees website, which is relatively easy to use.

What sucks is i cant even register. I hate some of the steps laid down by uscis. Why not just allow ppl to pay the fees at POE? Much simpler. This card stuff and all basically sucks.

          Abhinavp,

The first time I made one of these payments on the new USCIS ELIS payment app, I had to use 4 different email addresses over 3 days before I got it right. Other clients of mine reported either the same experience or that they were able to do it in 5 minutes.

I finally found the secret: 1, register as applicant, not relative or agent; 2, do not use password mode, which requires later email verification. Instead, use the question/answer verification mode, which allows you to stay online while being verified.

Frankly, all that security protocol is unnecessarily error-prone. It's a lousy application, which takes up an inordinate amount of time to maneuver for half of the customers (the other half just get lucky).

By contrast the National Visa Center online payment application, which started about 8 years ago, was good from the beginning, yet the NVC continued to improve it with enhancements.

Thats how i was doing it ie as an applicant. But the problem was on their part. I managed to pay the fees. I got 12 or so confimation emails at once on different email addresses. lol. They even replied to me saying the site was under maintenance over the weekend.
My flight is tomorrow and i dont really like flying :|

              Abhinavp,

Despite what the instructions say, you do not have to pay the $165 visa fee before you come to the U.S. Half of the entrants I have been talking to held off paying until they were in the U.S., with no resulting problems...just delay in receiving Green Cards.
