Hi all,
Back in early 2012, my parents (US Citizens) applied for a green card on my part.
I am over 21, and was unmarried back then. (This puts me in preference 1 I believe.)
Forgot about the whole thing and today I received the I-130 approval form. That's when I remembered this whole Green Card thing.
Since then, I have gotten married to US Citizen (stupid mistake, no one knows, not even my parents). My "wife" and I no longer talk, separated for over a year living in 2 diff countries, and plan on divorcing as soon as I step in the USA.
So what happens now? It says within 30 days I will be contacted by the NVC people, and that they will do some background check before granting me the greencard.
Obviously they will find that Im married in the background check, so what do I do? Am i Automatically pushed into Preference 3 now since I became married? Which means that my applications will now say Married and my parents are going to lose their minds.
My questions to you:
1- If I am Preference 3 now, how long till I obtain a greencard? 2 more years? On average..
2- Should I do anything or just wait for them to ask?
3- Are they going to send anything showing that I am now married?
4- Is there any chance that I stay in Preference 1 and my application stays unmarried?
ANYTHING else you can give me is greatly appreciated!!!!
Who knew marrying a US citizen will end up delaying everything!
Thanks in advance
