on your visa it should say that upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing PR for one year...if so then you can go even if you don't have received plastic card yet.

If your GC has been approved AFTER your interview,then go to your local USICS office and request to get a temporary I-551 evidencing PR on your passport before traveling outside US.
