  • Married after i-130 approved. Continue as non-married or notify USCIS?

My I -130 was approved and I got married at same time. Should I continue with current status?

If I notify USCIS about marriage at this stage,

    - will they review the case and reissue the approval including my spouse?
    - or "Case is closed" and they will ignore my notice?

    Thanks.

Who petitioned you? What category is this?

Unmarried son of citizen. F1, my priority date is 11/22/2010 which is about now.
If married the date seem to be 2005 according to https://travel.state.gov/contenthttp...pril-2017.html
(which means I'd have to wait about 5 years?)

Is it better to go as unmarried, and add spouse later?

      Thank you.

Since you're married, that isn't an option

Your category is determined by the facts, not by your choice. Since you are married, you do not qualify to immigrate in F1. You are automatically moved into F3. You should notify NVC about this change so that they don't try to start the consular processing too soon based on an incorrect assumption of your category.
