I130 notice of action - approval notice?

I received a notice of action, approval notice of the I-130 petition I filed for my son. They have sent it to the NVC (national visa center). Can I file an I485 "adjustment of status" right away? How long will it take to be approved?
An associate from the National call center said, that since your son is already here in the U.S. it should not take more that 9 to 12 months to be approved.
However, a para legal told me that since the priority date is August 1999 and they are now processing October 1996, she said I will still have to wait 2-3 years.

Are u a GC holder or citizen ?

from your post..looks like u are a GC holder....

If you are a citizen, then you can immediately file 485, else u have to wait for a visa number to be available....based on the priority date you have for your I130.
