  • Question for experienced immihelp members.

My husband (US citizen) and me would like to do the green card process for me without getting a lawyer. I've been in the US for 5 years-1 as a student and 4 as an H1B and green card applicant-As many of you may know, the whole process is long and frustrating sometimes. All the process has been done through a lawyer, and I'm currently waiting for my EAD and AOS to get approved (Labor Certification and I-140 were already approved, and biometrics were already taken). We dated for 2 years and decided to get marry last month. We would like to have the marriage as a back up for my process. Honestly, I'm not sure whether I should wait for my EAD and GC through my employment process, or should do the green card process through marriage.

I would deeply appreciate your advise.

Many people find themselves in this situations.

The employment based green card is long and costly.

The family based green card is short and costly.

    So pick one.

You can file based of marriage to him, and you should have your GC in 4-8 months at the latest. I think this would be the best for you.
