  • What is the fastest way to get a GC and be albe to work?

    Hi,

I am currently in Costa Rica while my fiancé is in the US, we are planning to marry in the US sometime this year assuming that this will speed up the process for me to get a work permit rather than getting married here and file for the GC from here, the goal is that I can start working legally in the US as soon as possible.

I currently have a B1/B2 Visa that allows me to enter the US.

I would like to get some guidance on this, maybe someone can answer the following questions for me:

Is the fastest way to get a work permit to enter the US with my current visa, get married while I am there and then file for the green card?
Or is there a faster way to get a work permit in the US?

What do I need for US to get married in the US?

Once we married what is the process that we need to follow for me to apply for a GC? I have seen multiple sites on this but I am not clear on the step by step process we need to follow.

How long could I expect to wait to be able to start working?

I would really appreciate some guidance...

well I will tell you my experience. My wife from Mexico entered with B1/B2. We married in the US. Just went to Clerk of courts and got a Marriage license. Then Married. I filed I-130 and I-485. Filed paperwork 3-4-09. fingerprinted 4-02 received EAD on 4-27. I-485 approved 5-20 . received card 6-25 due to a delay in card production. But you should look at the trackers to see what is happening

Good to know, one question though: Were you engaged before she entered the US or you met her afterwards?

      Thanks...

Be careful here. B1/B2 visas are for those people who are coming to visit temporarily only, not for intended immigrants. If you are entering the US with the B1/B2 visa with intention of working and residing in the U.S. or to get married, then you may be considered committing fraud.

Your fiancee should file an 129F petition for you as a fiance to get you in.
