Parent on New GC - Wants to travel soon.

Hi all,

My mother got GC by Consular processing last September and they gave a Stamping on the passport which was valid until March. She entered the USA on Feb end. She has not yet received the Green Card by mail. But she got the SSN by mail.

She wants to travel to India in May and take care of some family matters and come back. Can she travel without physical GC ? And since her stamping in the passport expired Can she re enter ? On the Stamping, it is written that it is a proof of I-551 for 1 year.

I am also trying to call the USCIS to find out when they can send me the GC. Please advise.

Yes. Her immigrant visa turned into an I-551, equivalent to a green card (which is also an I-551) valid until next February. She can use that to enter the US, work in the US, etc. just like a green card.
