  • Low income spouse and benefits from government

    Hey
I am here on F1 visa and I am 24 yrs old male, my fiance is 35 yrs old. She is US citizen however, she falls below poverty line. She gets food stamp and housing voucher from US government. She does not have any family member in the US except me and her 12 yrs old son. If I have join co-sponsor who is my friend. Should I go ahead an apply for AOS once I get married to her? Would that cause a problem if she gets welfare benefits and have joint co sponsor for AOS?

We have been in relation for 2.5 yrs.

    Hi,
No you'll be ok. She will be your wife and she is a US citizen, what she gets from government is what her government gives her, has nothing to do with you. Go ahead and fill AOS as soon as you are married, also you will need your friend as a co-sponsor. Goodluck
