  • I-864EZ - part 6 Sponsors contract

    Hello,
I am sponsoring GC for my parents. Can someone please explain what is meant by this obligation for the sponsor and when does it apply?

If an intending immigrant becomes a permanent resident in the United States based on a Form I-864EZ that you have signed, then, until your obligations under the Form I-864EZ terminate, you must:

-- Provide the intending immigrant any support necessary to maintain him or her at an income that is at least 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for his or her household size.

      Hello,
I read the article, but it's still not very clear. Do I need to find employment for parents so that they can maintain an income at 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines ? The literal meaning sounds something like that. Please help.

No. Income requirement is for the sponsor and not for the beneficiary.
That means that your income is good enough so that you can take care of their expenses.

So, does it mean this statement is not worded properly in I864?

"Provide the intending immigrant any support necessary to maintain him or her at an income that is at least 125 percent"
