How to convert CR1 petition to IR1?

Hi,

I130 was filed and approved for a US-citizen spouse in 2018. After all the USCIS,NVC processing, the case got to US embassy for Consulate Processing ... then came the darn COVID! Now the embassy has been closed for 1 year, and no updates on when it might open.

In the mean time, marriage is now 2.5 years old. So, how can the pending CR1 category be changed to IR1 category?

7/21/18 Filed I130 @ Chicago Lockbox
8/8/18 I797C (Notice of Action received)
3/29/19 I130 approved
5/15/19 NVC case/invoice email received.
5/19/19 Paid all fees, submitted AOS, Civil Documents and DS260
8/14/20 NVC marked the case complete, waiting for visa interview date.

Total wait: 26 months+ ... still waiting! Who knows when, due to covid

You don't need to do anything. If, on the day the immigrant enters the US with their immigrant visa, they have been married for 2 years, they automatically become a non-conditional permanent resident.
