Do we need both marriage certificate and death certificate?

Hello,

We are applying for immigrant visa for my mother in law. My father in law passed away in 2010. Is a death certificate enough or do we need to also provide the marriage certificate for them as well when the time comes to upload the civil docs?

Based on my search on other forums, you would need only a marriage certificate (if you have), if not marriage affidavit.
