Visiting the US after visa interview??

Hi,
I am going to have an immigrant visa interview in a few weeks.
I know that it is not advised to make any travel arrangements to the US until the Visa has been issued.
However, over 6 months ago (before I received my appointment package) I have already planned - and paid for - a trip to the US, which will take place only a few days AFTER my visa interview! This will only be a 2-weeks-vacation and I can't immigrate to the US immediately (not in a few weeks from now...).
So, once (and if...) my immigrant visa will be approved after my interview, could I still go to the US for vacations this time, without handing in the visa packet when I arrive ?? And keep it until I can immigrate in a few months?

I believe not as you would be considered an intending immigrant.
