Re-issue of passport/name change after remarriage

Dear all,

I was married and I got divorced back in 2010. I have changed back to my maiden name on records like drivers license, SSN except on the passport. I always found the process of name change on passport is very cumbersome specially the newspaper ad and stuff. How crucial is it to change name on passport when you have other supporting documents? Or when you apply for GC??

I am engaged now and planning to get married soon. My fiancee is a US citizen. Once I get married I'll apply for family based green card. I was wondering about getting my name changed on passport now (back to maiden) and redo it after marriage (to his last name or just add his infomation on the passport) or do it all together after remarriage?? Any suggestion or experiences??

You are not required to change your name anywhere after marriage or divorce. However, whatever name you want to go by should be consistent everywhere. It is always a trouble if one name is at one place and another name is at another place.

Therefore, decide what name you want to go by and change to that everywhere, no matter how difficult it is.
