When can I apply for adjustment of status

I'm over 21 , an international student and my parents are U.S citizens. My dad filed a petition for me in August 2011 which is still pending. I was informed that I could apply for adjustment of status. I did and my application was returned to me with the reason that my priority date is not current. I later found out that they are only working on April 2005 at the moment (priority date). Is it possible at all to apply for my adjustment of status now? Does anyone know how long it takes for the petition to be approved? And how long the entire process could take to get my permanent resident status?
