  • Marriage Certificate Address

    Hi,

I had a question regarding marriage certificate for applying for citizenship. I am applying for naturalization soon and as part of this process, I am required to submit a marriage certificate to prove my marriage with my husband. However, both of us are in consulting with long term travel required.

I have been staying in NC for the last 8 years, however my husband, who I married in Nov 2011 travels all over and at times have to stay in another state depending on duration on his assignment. At the time we decided to apply for a marriage license in Nov 2011, we were in MA since he was staying there for a long term assignment and I was visiting. For ease of communication, we entered his MA address for both him and me on the marriage license.

Now that I am applying for naturalization in next week or so, will the conflicting address on my marriage certificate i.e. MA and my permanent residence i.e. NC, cause any issue with USCIS? Is there any way we can change the address on marriage certificate to avoid any problems later.

Any help or guidance will be much appreciated.

I think the USCIS doesn't check where you got your marriage licence. They don't look at the address on your marriage certificate (What if your marriage was taking place in your country/ Would that a reason to deny?) but they check the address on your Photo ID/Driver license. When you file you have to look at a document called "M-476 Eligibility for Citizenship". Just visit www.USCIS.gov and search for M-476.
