  • Change of title while working on H1

I initially joined the institute as Research Associate and my H1 was filed and approved with this title. Later the institute changed my title to Project Manger, sort of promotion and salary raise. Do i need to modify or refile something with my H1 or it does not matter if the salary or title is changed while you are staying in the same place? Please advise.

    Thank you.

This was my friend's situation exactly.
He spoke to a very reputed lawyer, who told him
he needed to do two things:

    1. Put down the old title in the I-140 and I-485.

    2. Get a letter from the company saying that you are employed
as a Research Assoc, and that your job duties are blah blah blah.
Try to make sure the job duties in this letter are almost identical
    to those in your LC.

You cannot put down "Proj manager" in the I-140 because an RA is
very different from a PM. The word "Manager" will surely cause the
INS to object. After all, an RA does research, while a PM manages
projects. Therefore the job functions have changed completely.

But don't worry, IA it will work out. Most employers are very supportive.
