H1 extension after 6th year - need clarification on rules

My I-140 (EB3 category) was received by USCIS on Jan 13 2015. My H1 (6th year) is expiring on July 31 st 2015.

Can I apply for H1 extension (beyond 6 year) based on pending I-140?

My understanding is that applicant can file for 1 year extension (after completing 6th year on H1) based on pending I-140, Is this correct?
