Is spouse added to GC processing in !140 stage

Hi,

My company is processing GC for me and my I140 is approved and is waiting for my priority date(May 2008 EB3 category) to be current. My wife is currently in H4.

Will changing my wife to F1(student visa) affect my ongoing GC process negatively? I heard that spouse is added to the process only during I485 filing. Is that true?

I am pretty sure your spouse doesn't get added to your GC application until the I-485 filing. That is the application for immigration. Until that point applying for non-immigrant visa (even F1) for your spouse should be safe.
Of course, the safest option would be for your wife to take up school while being on H4 but there are obvious 'work after graduation' benefits with F1.

I agree with golego. Spouse and children will be added only on 485 time. So, she should be fine for h4 to f1.
