Adding to the roster of successful consular processing cases at Mumbai. Got mine (EB2) on Aug 25. The whole thing was a breeze - the prescreen+interview lasted less than four minutes, nothing beyond the basic mandatory documents (OF230, employment verification, medical records, birth certificate, and of course, passport) were asked. Everyone was all smiles and cooperation (try that one for size), the only glitch was the three hour wait for the three minute interview. So the nub is: the time given on your appointment letter doesn't mean squat. Show up as early as you can and get your name in. There was a doubt as to whether they would let you in if you came too early. Conflicting reports on this, but I showed up a little over half an hour early, and they let me in right away, again with a smile.
I did my medical at Hinduja on Aug 21, and people were all smily-faced there too. Only one word of advice - despite the fact that Hinduja gives test results back the same day (which they did), keep a buffer of atleast 3-4 days between the medical and the interview. The same-day report rule holds true only if everything is OK (physically) with you (and your mate, if you have one). Happened to the couple just before me - the guy got a clean bill of health, but his wife needed additional tests that required atleast two extra days, and his interview was the very next day. I didn't stick around to find out what happened, but don't let that happen to you.
All in all, the process is a cinch. If you've gotten as far as the interview appointment, and you're not a closet terrorist, you've pretty much nailed it.
I'm already back in the US...
