SS Office info updation after entry into US

Within what timeframe should you go to the social security office to update you SS information wiht the new status ?
Do you have to do it within next few days of entry into US ?

Any inputs appreciated.

I spoke to my attorney about this and I was told that only if my SS card says not valid for employment should I get it amended otherwise no.

All the H-1b guys have SS card with the following :
"Valid to work with INS authirization"

So does this mean that we do not have to go to SS office at all ?

All that we have to do is fill I-9 and give to our employer.

Please confirm.

I went to the SSA office the day after I traveled to the US.
They issue a new card without the "valid for work with INS authorization" line.
