  • 75-Year Green Card Holder – Re-entry Permit (I-131) and Biometric Reappointment Issue

A 75-year-old lawful permanent resident (green card holder) applied for a re-entry permit before leaving the United States, as she needed to travel to India for extended medical treatment expected to last 9–12 months. She completed her initial biometric appointment prior to departure.

Two days after leaving the U.S., she received a notice stating that her fingerprints from the appointment were unusable, and she must appear again for biometrics. Due to her ongoing medical treatment abroad, she is unable to travel back to the U.S. solely for this purpose.

Could you please advise what options are available in this situation? Specifically, is there any way to complete the biometric requirement from abroad or request an alternative procedure due to medical hardship?

    Hi,
i dont think, Biometrics will happen outside of country for USCIS purpose. It will be taken at Application Support Center (ASC) inside the USA. U.S. embassies, consulates, and DHS offices abroad do not provide fingerprinting for USCIS applications. You can try sending explanation letter to USCIS office to reschedule the appointment but no guarantee.
    All the best.
    Thanks

There is one USCIS field office in India in New Delhi. I am trying to see if they can accommodate the appointment there.

not much luck. Local field office is ready to do the biometric if the processing center creates the international biometric notice. But when I called USCIS, they are saying, international biometric notice can be created only for the military personnel. There is clearly difference in what local office says and what processing office is ready to offer. Kind of lost!

          Hi,
This is so hard to accept for now. Hope you have decided for any other options to proceed ahead.
          Thanks
