  • PIO card for renewed US passport - currently in India

My son (minor - 5 years old) has US passport which gets expired on Dec 2012. PIO card refers to this passport number, validity of PIO card is till 2020.
We are currently in India and need to go back to US now. I have applied to get US passport renewed for my son.
    My question is -

    1. Will he get new US passport or old US passport will be extended
    2. Do I need to get PIO card endorsed with new or extended passport before his travel back to USA. Is that mandatory or will create any issue for his travel ?
If this is an issue, than how can I get PIO card renewed in India, we are currently in Bangalore and how much time it takes. Any pointer will be very helpful.

    Thanks.

    1. New
    2. Not a problem. Once you return to the U.S., get new passport number endorsed in PIO care from Indian consulate. New

      Pio card validity

      Hi,

My daughter is a minor (5 years). Right now we are in India. Her PIO card is valid till 2023. Her U.S. passport expired last week. If i apply for the renewal in India, it will take 10 days for the new passport.
      1) So is the PIO card valid, if there is a gap in the expiry date in the old passport and issue date in the new passport( because the passport is already expired)?
      2) And where shall i endorse the PIO card with the new passport in India? I am in Hyderabad. The PIO card was issued in U.S.
      3) Will there be a problem while endorsing the PIO with the new passport because of the date gap in the expiry and issue dates between the old and new passports? We dont plan to travel to U.S atleast for the next two years.

      Thanks,
      Rajani
