  • Not able to get driving license becuase of no surman in Indian passport--Please Help

    Hell every one,

I came to US 2 months back on H1B visa and so far wasnt having any problem. Now when i applied for driving license and cleared my written test in DMV california (Irvine) , i was told that my name is not matching with my name in social security records. In my passport, my surname is missing while given name is having full name but in in visa my name is correctly maintained it means i have correct surname and correct given name and based on that my social security records also has correct surname and given name.

Now DMV is saying , should change my passport or contact social security. I can change my passport but now there is other problem that i am not living in leased home, its rented home with out lease agreement and i dont have any utility bills on my name. I have car leasing agreement and car insurance paper on my home address but i dont find any where that these two can work if i go for renewal of my passport. I am in a deadlock situation where i cant renew my passport and bcz of that i cant have driving licesnse.

Please help as its too difficult to live in irvine with out driving license. I belive my indian license is not valid if i wana drive in california.

    Thanks a lot.

It appears the Indian passport folks goofed up your name or when applying you didnt enter the surname. Contact the Indian Embassy and see if you can correct it? So if your SSN has the right name, what is the DMV complaining about ?
It looks like if you correct your Indian passport, it should fix your issue.

Change your name by advertising your name change in US and India and have your parents mail you the newspaper clipping from India.

In CA, the processing time is 2-3 weeks for this.
