I-94 renewal at Mexico border

I stay in CA,USA. I am on L1 visa(from India) which is valid till 2015. However my passport validity was ending in Nov 2013 due to which my I-94 is ending in Nov 2013. Now I got my passport renewed and I want to renew my I-94 by going to San Diego-Mexico border. Can it be done easily or is there a chance they may not renew my I-94 at the border?
