Applying for entry visa while oci stamp transfer application in process

I applied for oci u-visa transfer to new US passport because I turned 50 this year.

The status says:

Date Of Acknowledgment 07-NOV-2013
Registration Status at Mission CHICAGO
OCI- Number
Documents Printing Status UNDER-PROCESS

1. Assuming I won't get my oci done before Dec., can I apply for a tourist / entry visa on my current US passport (which I have with me), and be able to enter India?

I think the answer is "yes", but would appreciate a confirmation esp. if someone who has gone through this and had no problems at Delhi airport.

Yes, you can apply for entry visa or tourist visa while OCI is under process. Tourist visa is quicker.
