  • Notarize spouse passport/marriage certificate in USA

    Hi Guys,

Please help. I am staying in Boston, MA and applying for Passport reissue. I am married and my spouse is in India and adding her name in my passport. But BLS wants notarization of spouse's first/last page and marriage certificate in USA. I don't have the original passport and marriage certificate with me. Do you know if notarization can be done in Massachusetts state without the original documents.

Note: I have notarized Spouse's first/last page of passport and marriage cert. in India and have originals of them.

In the U.S. a Notary witness only means that you are the person whose signature is on the document. The authenticity of public documents must be certified by the issuing government agency. With most other countries, authentication of public documents in the U.S. is done by the Consulate or Embassy of the country to which the authenticated documents will be sent. Apostilles are also more often used when sending documents abroad.
