  • Renunciation + Visitor's Visa

My thanks to the folks at immihelp for hosting this helpful website. I assume the name means immediate help (not just immigration help).

I am about to submit visitor visa applications for the entire family tomorrow. Didn't realize that we now have a new (long and complicated) procedure in place since my last visit to the Indian Consulate in Houston in 2004 (in and out on the same day with visas). Now I am submitting the applications to CKGS Houston with the hope that we would get the visas in time for our December holiday travel.

The only complication is that my wife and I have to submit Renunciation Forms as well with the visa applications.

My question:Assuming all paper work is in order when I visit them tomorrow, will the visa application be processed in parallel with the renunciation or will the renunciation process need to complete (3 weeks?) before the visa process starts (1-2 weeks)? I am ok with waiting to get the renunciation certificate later, but would like to have the visa-stamped passport earlier.

Will anyone with similar situation please shed some light?

    Thanks.

There is really no way to say whether they are internally processing them together or one by one.

      Thanks.

I went to the CKGS Houston office two days back and submitted the two applications separately (one for renunciation and the other for visitor's visa). I saw the officer combine the two applications together (i.e., she returned redundant pages back to me), and used a rubber band to stick the US and Indian passports together. They even refunded the CKGS fees for one application. This leads me to believe the two applications are indeed processed together. I was told it would take about 10 working days to get the visitor's visa. I hope so.
