I got my PIO card in 2010 when I was 16. It contains the number of the passport I had at the time, but that passport expired in 2013. I obtained a new one later that year, and I was able to travel to India shortly thereafter using my PIO card and my new passport (and without my old one) without any problems. A few months ago, I found out about the PIO-OCI merger. I checked the CKGS website, and it says that since the passport that is listed on my PIO card is expired, I should apply for an "OCI in lieu of PIO card" before September 30, 2015 because there is no application fee. On the other hand, it says that my PIO card is valid for the rest of my life and I can simply get a lifetime endorsement next time I visit India. Also, the OCI scheme states that people under 21 must renew their OCI every time they get a new passport. I'm very confused as to what I should do. Can keep using my PIO card with a valid passport, or should I apply for an OCI card? Any help is greatly appreciated.
