nikahnama muslim marriage certificate

I am a muslim european citizen on employment visa in india. I married a muslim indian woman recently and i want to convert my employment visa to x visa. We have not registered our marriage under the 1954 special marriage act and we prefer not to do so. Will our nikahnama (muslim marriage certificate) be considered as a valid marriage certificate to complete the conversion of my visa?
