  • OCI with Dual Passport

I really appreciate if someone could help me here answering my question here.

I am an Australian Passport Holder living here in USA with valid Indian OCI card. I will be taking USA Citizenship soon (Since Australia and USA allows dual citizenship). After that i will be holding USA Passport and Australian Passport , also Indian OCI card (which i got it after getting Australian Passport).
During my visit to India, I will be using Australian Passport which has OCI at the port of entry. While leaving to USA from India, i should be using USA passport at Port of Exit i guess. In that case, Entering and leaving India will be on two different passport. Is it allowed by the law ? Please advise , how do I handle this , should I link USA passport details to existing OCI card"

1st of all, either of passport is fine, but i will suggest you to use U.S passport, put U.S passport number on application, since new oci card will not issue U-Visa sticker on current passport, you can travel on any valid travel document. 2nd, you have to include both naturalization certificate ( if you apply oci from San Francisco jurisdiction, do not send current passport and original support documents) , and proof of renunciation or submit at the same time same package with OCI application.

if you have more questions you can directly ask me

      OCI with Dual Passport

@proonindiandoc, Thanks a lot for your response. Pls clarify the following.

Rightnow i have valid OCI which i got it after aquring Australian Citizenship which has U sticker on this Australian Passport.

After getting my USA passport, should i apply for OCI under 'Misc. Category' and while filling the application form mention my USA Passport details instead of my valid Australian Passport and get a new OCI in which my USA Passport details are linked and no U visa on USA passport. In that case , should i go thro' the same processing time of OCI . Pls advise.

      Thanks, Again

Don't put yourself through the hassle of transferring your OCI details from your Australian passport to the US passport. I say this for 2 reasons - first and foremost, the whole OCI application process is tedious and messed up right now. Secondly, you don't need to really do this as officially the following clearly stated on GOI website here http://boi.gov.in/content/overseas-c...oci-cardholder

"If the OCI card holder acquires nationality of a different country after obtaining the OCI card, except that of Pakistan and Bangladesh, he/she shall also be allowed to enter/exit India on the strength of his/her new passport of the recently acquired nationality and OCI Registration Certificate (OCI card)."

the New OCI process is much much more efficient and easy now, update yourself with me now. the new OCI doesn't issue U-visa sticker to any current passport, which means great benefit for people who carry dual nationality. strongly recommend you to do OCI change of passport particularly. need more accurate and updated information contact me directly.

This is the first time I have heard anybody praise the new OCI process. If anything, the application process has gone from pretty bad to horribly worse.

The only good thing now, as you mentioned, is that they don't affix the U-visa in the passport.

                Kids OCI Process in Canada

                Hello,

I have submitted applications for my both sons OCI cards at BLS office in Calgary, Canada on July 31, 2015. It's almost 7 months now since we submitted our applications and I have no idea what's going on. I tried contacting the Indian Consulate in Vancouver, but they said, they are waiting to get the clearance from the Indian Consulate in the United States where my sons passports were issued...both my sons were born in the US.

I have tried contacting BLS and they said, they don't have any information on our files.

I have no emergency to visit India right now, but just in case if I have to...I will be in trouble.

Please let me know if any of you have any idea of what to do. Really appreciate your time and suggestions.

                Thanks.

neither visa nor oci turn around time are guarantee, i see some applicant waited for more than 2 years. what is problem if you need to travel? why can't apply VISA then? you won get any answers before OCI proof from India.

IF YOU CAN PLEASE ADVISE ME

I’ve Dual nationality Portuguese and British

My OCI is linked to Portuguese passport, but in future I want to travel with my British passport to India.

I want to link my British passport to existing OCI card, should I choose the 1st option? (Re-issuances of OCI Card) or the 2nd option (service for Updation of information in OCi records)

You will have to apply for re-issue of OCI under misc services due to change in nationality.

Yes, I understand you have both Portuguese & British citizenships, but India doesn't recognize dual citizenships and only considers one citizenship. So to get your OCI issued, you will have to say your nationality changed to British.

Honestly, it is unnecessary IMO. Just carry your Portuguese passport also when you travel to India.
