  • US passport for Indian born baby after registering his birth in Indian consulate

    Hi friends ,
I am on H1 visa and currently in US . My baby is born here. Initially i was planning to get Indian passport so I register my child birth at Indian consulate and applied for Indian passport. Passport is not yet come and I have sent the withdrawal letter to cancel it.

Can I apply for US passport now . Is there any issue as I registered his birth in Indian consulate.

The fact thatyour child has a us birth certificate allows the child to possess a us passport. Whether the act of registration alone with the indian consulate, made the child a indian citizen also, that is a grey area and best answered by the embassy in washington

you are making him in trouble! indian has no dual citizenship, you either to stay with US citizen or renounce US citizenship to have Indian citizenship. if you keep both, Indian government will penalize who travel in Indian passport with dual citizenship. and Indian Embassy wouldn't advise Indian people to do so.
