  • Documents to be notarized

    Hi

I am applying for a new OCI Adult and new OCI for Minor with CS NY office. There is a lot of confusion as to what needs to be notarized. In NJ notary publics will not notarize signatures and not certify document as a true copy. But the instructions on CS website states that several documents need to be notarized. Does anyone know what is truly required with the new guidelines?

    Thanks

    OCI Docs

    Hi,

To be on safe side do just as the checklist says. It clearly mentions which docs need to be notarized and which need to be self attested. Essentially you have to notarize copies for which you are not submitting originals like birth certificates, Naturalization certificate etc, plus the original application too. But do consult the checklist, it does clearly state which ones need notarizing.

And you are correct, getting things notarized is a pain in the a**. I tried my town clerk and they refused to notarize, even my bank refused to notarize. Luckily the town in which I worked agreed to notarize. I also had to pay for a couple of pages to be notarized at the UPS store ($5 oer page), as I forgot to get everything notarized. As you can imagine payed notary can become very expensive, but if everything else fails that is the last resort. If you are a AAA member try with them. If not try your luck in some other town. BTW, I am from CT.

    All the best.
