  • Not able to collect OCI Card in lie of PIO Card due to travel, Can i apply in India?

    Hi All,
My son is US born and he has US Passport and PIO Card. We had applied for OCI Card in lieu of PIO Card.
It just got to the stage of call for passport matchup.
We are not able to collect the OCI Card from CKGS because we need to travel to India in 1 week.
During this time, my visa will expire and we may not come back to US for another 2 years (at least)

Can we apply for OCI card from India? CKGS rep tells me that I may not be able to, since i already applied for one.
But i feel like this is a genuine case and such cases are possible with other people.

Better off calling the local Indian Embassy

you can withdraw your application and start fresh from India. Its might be easier to do it in India than deal with CKGS/Ind embassy nonsense here.

NO you can't, if applicant is resident of United States, applicant must apply at United States, unless you have all the proof of resident from India.

Not sure of that. It says in the OCI description that OCI can be applied fro in India also. You need to show them your visa. Why don't you call the OCI helpline in india
            Also read th FAQ http://mha1.nic.in/pdfs/oci-faq.pdf
