  • X Entry Visa Renewal -Please help

    Hello Everyone,

I am a US national naturalized in January 2010. I was born and raised in India. I currently have an X entry visa issued by Indian embassy in Seoul as I was working there at that time. The visa is about to expire this month. I am currently residing in USA and have to visit India this April. I remember the Indian embassy in Seoul took my Indian passport and then only issued me the X entry visa to India for the first time. I am not able to recall if they have issued any passport surrender/renunciation certificate at that time back in 2010. My question is , when I am trying to get a new visa from Houston embassy they are asking for a renunciation certificate.

    1. So can I again apply for renunciation for the second time by paying penalty even though I did it in Seoul Indian embassy?

    2. If I do apply for renunciation certificate, I do not have original Indian passport which I surrendered in Indian embassy Seoul. So is it legal to make an affidavit and get a police certificate for loss of passport and still apply for renunciation now?

    3. Can I just write a letter instead of a police certificate explaining to Indian embassy in Houston explaining my situation? or Should I mention in the police certificate that I lost my surrender/renunciation certificate but not the actual passport?

    4. Can I just apply for an ETV visa for 30 days instead of going through all this?

Please help guys as I am really confused on what to do now. Thank you so much.

You case looks bit complicated. My best guess is as long as you have US Passport you can apply for Visa on Arrival (I think you are referring this as ETV). In any case, ask the embassy or Cox support. I think if you live nearby, better go in-person and take their opinion on what is the best thing for you to do.
