  • OCI CARD India Old Passport with U Visa Sticker New Passport without

I hold an expired foreign passport that has a valid U Visa Sticker and hold a valid OCI Card. I subsequently renewed my Passport twice in the span of 10 years and in both the passports I did not transfer the U Visa Sticker. The new rules state that I do not require the Old Passport with the U Sticker Visa - But, the OCI Card that I have does not state on it Life Long Validity as it was issued years ago. Will this be a problem at the Immigration in India? Or do I still need to carry my old expired Passport with the valid U Sticker Visa? Or will i need to get a new OCI Card?

Since we are dealing with the government that still posts contradictory and confusing information on their official websites, I would not trust them. Therefore, I would carry all the passports (and I know how cumbersome that would be) just to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Better be safe then sorry.

The whole OCI deal has been nothing but a poorly managed project by the government of India, since day one. On top of that, they have been outsourcing the consular services to all lame companies, including the current one (CKGS).

strongly recommended your opinion. people are not mandatory to renewal their OCI then they have new passport issued. I will only recommend people who have changed of personal particulars do need to renew according to the personal information change

I think you meant "not mandatory to RENEW their OCI WHEN they have new passport issued".

Also, please elaborate as to what falls under "personal particulars" when you mentioned "changed of personal particulars"

Anyone traveled to India with New OCI booklet with the 'U-Visa' Sticker

We are planning to travel to india next month, my wife and daughter got the oci card booklet but no 'U-visa' sticker on their foreign passport.

Did anyone recently traveled with just the oci booklet, any issues faced at US and indian immigration. Anything we should be concerned about.

All advises will be greatly appreciated.

          Thanks,
          Lb

Old passports were not required when we traveled in December 2016.

On December 24, 2016 my wife and I, along with our two children (both children have their renewed US passports, and old (original) OCI cards that we never got reissued/renewed), landed at the Ahmedabad international airport. To my pleasant surprise, we had absolutely no trouble passing through the immigration process despite defying the OCI reissue rule outright! So much so, that the immigration officers did not even ask for my children's old passports that have the U Visa stickers on them - let alone any question on why we did not get the children's OCI cards reissued after when the US passports were renewed! All we had to present was our current passports and original OCI cards!
