  • OCI-Renunciation (Applying together):

    Background
    =======
    I started the application for OCI and Renunciation together. I answered all the questions displayed on the widget that guided me through the entire OCI application process. In the middle, along the steps I also completed the Renunciation application and got the requirements, fees and document checklist. At this process my application process is completed online, and I also completed Steps A and B and am about to submit my physical application along with the required forms and documents
    My OCI Application - Web Reference No.:USAXYZ..
    My OCI-Application File-Number: USA123...
    Using my credit card, I paid the below and received the order form (selected UPS overnight)
    I paid for OCI Fees ($275, Renunciation Fee $175, ICWF Fee $3 and CKGS Service Fee $17)
    I paid for Shipping Fees ($45 from "you to CKGS - 3 envelopes" and $30 from "CKGS to you - 2 envelopes"

    Question
    =====
    1. Can I submit both my OCI and Renunciation application in a single UPS Express Envelope ? Or do I need to submit two separate UPS Express Envelope(s) ?
    2. Should I have one copy of all documents for OCI and a separate copy of all documents for Renunciation both in the same single envelope ?
    3. Finally, since I already paid for $75 in shipping ( 45 for sending and 30 for receiving), do I again need to pay at UPS store ? What was the $30 + $45 for
    4. What about the return ? Do i also attach 2 extra envelopes with paid shipping labels and send across in same envelope ?

    So do we send 1 envelope via UPS express to CKGS New York Office
    - OCI form and docs
    - Renunciation form and docs
    - 2 blank express envelopes with shipping labels for return
    - Will all fit in 1 envelope i wonder.

    Asking guys as dont want to do 90% of the things right and mess up on shipping
    Please advise as IM sure many of you probably just did this

    vijk2001,

    I am in a similar situation process wise as you and would be interested in responses to your questions.

    I do have a question for you - did you complete uploading of the required supporting documents?

    I had successfully uploaded my photo and my signature in the https://passport.gov.in/oci/ website. I am trying to upload other supporting documents (passports etc.) but I have not been able to login to do that.

    I have tried entering both my current US passport and my Indian passport number in the "Passport Number" field and the only file number I received from OCI(at)nic.in after the completion of part B, but I get a response that says that record is not found. I have even tried "Forgot registration-Number" without any success. Did you receive more than OCI file number by any chance?

    Just curious if you had any of the above issues.

    thanks

      When I sent it over a year ago, I send them both in the same envelop. However, I had separate envelopes for both renunciation and OCI. I believe they are both processed separately. For that reason I included all the copies asked in the document requirement page.

        Answers:
        1. you must submit both OCI and Renunciation into one outgoing envelope, if separate the submission will delay the process for sure.
        2. you should only submite the OCI complete supporting documents, Renunciation only to submit your physical latest Indian passport and two Renunciation certificates, nothing else from Renunciation checklist, those are dicided for stand-alone submission only.
        3. I am sorry to tell you that you overpaid too much. for total courier you would only pay 1 outgoing including both OCI and Renunciation, return with two separate envelope just in case they came back separate from consulate .
        4. since you already paid for return, nothing to enclosed for return label.
