hey guys,
I want to know what else I can do to expedite my application. I've applied for a fresh Indian passport at a consulate here in the U.S about 5 months ago. I arrived into the U.S. at the age of 7 on my mom's passport. Since that time, I have not had a passport of my own. When my mom renewed her Indian passport, they got rid of my name. When she inquired, they told her that I have to apply on my own. We came on visitor visa and overstayed. She ended up getting Work authorization early on and I didn't get my GC status till I turned 33. I am now 34. I have already submitted everything they require for an Indian passport (birth certificate, original passport from 1989), GC copy, US, driver license, marriage certificate, etc ... I was told by the consulate that I am highly unusual. When I inquired about why it's taken 5 months, they told me that I do not have a right to my passport. They also said that oversees Indian offices only re-issue a passport and that I would have to go to India (New Delhi) and apply. The consulate said that they will essentially take pity on me and request a temporary passport to be given. My questions are:
- What can I do to expedite my process ? I've already contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and am told that they are working on it.
- Do I have a right to a passport ?
